About Littlestone

Hands holding embroidered brown fabric with floral patterns.

How it began

My Brave Mother undamned what has turned out to be a lifelong creative river by allowing me to design, then execute that design in my bedroom of our new home when I was only twelve years old. It was 1967, so everything was done in black and white!  And many thanks to my Aunt Dolores, the possessor of the greatest laugh in the world, who taught me how to sew in the fourth grade, allowing me to make many of my own school clothes. Anything was better than those chubby sets from Sears!

Experience

Over the years, I've worked in all sorts of fields with fabric as the medium...boats, cars, furniture, draperies, awnings, costumes, clothing, leather, you name it. Rarely saying 'No' to a project supplied countless unique experiences.  It was the fabulous artist, Joy Adams, after commissioning several pieces in her particular bent, that put the action of art and function into my otherwise standard residential upholstery business.  Another undamned tributary!

My Process

Over the years, many of my upholstery clients, after seeing the options, want a little more than a simple tan wing chair. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know a client...interests, lifestyle, favorite painting or author... then offer designs from that knowledge that I think will suit them better. It could be as simple and traditional as changing the legs or, as I'm designing right now, a commission for an owl based design!  A factory piece just can't reach the depths that personal human interaction can.
